I’m really looking forward to visiting the sculpture garden at the flower show - the sculpture that comes out of our respective studios is fresh, considered and relevant.
Outdoors we have access to amazing light - the random, the weather dependent, the range of angles and colours. We are also at the mercy of weather impacts on our work - wind and rain and UV light can wreak havoc on delicate structures. The work in the exhibition is designed to withstand these - the ephemeral work that people produce in the workshops can be a reflection on time and impermanence - what a pleasure to experience it all!
I am always inspired when I am on my shift in an exhibition - I see myriad approaches to art and life - all with the artist’s hand showing the passion that drove its creation. I am fortunate. Some of you will not be able to see the exhibition in real life - distance, cost and time are all factors. However, the work will be online so there is a chance to see the work as recorded by our photographer. During the exhibition there will be a banner on the ASV homepage linking to the online exhibition - after 9th April you can check past exhibitions by looking through the exhibitions tab.
When lockdown was our only defence against the Covid pandemic we discovered both the opportunities and the inadequacies of online communication. One of the opportunities was the greater involvement of regional sculptors. We had a bit more time to chat rather than the fleeting hello’s at exhibition set up and dismantling. Hopefully in April or May we can meet online for a “Show and Tell” about our work, about our philosophy and our hopes and plans.
Even as we set up for MIFGS 2023, Gillian and her band of helpers... hello out there... are immersed in preparations for the Annual & Awards Exhibition. Thank you to everyone contributing to the ASV program - we have a community of artists that is supportive and creative - happy sculpting everyone.
Happy sculpting
