President’s Notes

Greetings!

We are halfway through the year -JULY!

There is much to celebrate – we have been contributing to the artscape of Victoria....Herring Island, MIFGS, the Backyard and Garden Show and Our Annual at the VAS have brought us together, and we have been able to share many happy moments doing what we love to do. This president’s spiel (below) will focus on the outcomes of the July Committee meeting to keep you all in the loop....we will be brief, if you require more information on any of the points we are an email away. We won't post this in every Newsletter but we think you all should have the opportunity to get an update now and again.

The AGM will be held on 12th October, until then the Committee Team will be headed by Bruce A/P , Gillian A/VP and Gunnel being Ccd overseas; John R, Treasurer, John B Secretary / Public Officer plus our Committee members, this meets the requirement of our Constitution

Tom Bass quote of the month:

‘Sculpture is drawing in three dimensions’.

I was recently a visitor to the NGV Picasso Century in Melbourne. This is certainly worth a visit just to experience the fabulous 3D drawings and the forms evident in most of the 2D work. The exhibition closes 9th October.

Visitors have the opportunity to discover a rich selection of works by artists rarely exhibited in Australia, including Natalia Goncharova, Julio González, Wifredo Lam, Suzanne Valadon and Maria Helena Vieira da Silva and Alberto Giacometti.

ASV Committee meeting update - July 2022

DGR Charity Status – the next step is to a) request input from legal expertise/ and or change our Constitution....we are working on both fronts.

Website Brief for new website – this has hit a bit of a stalemate...we are progressing slowly. This still hinges on grant applications. In the short term the front page will get a spring clean. Alberto and Jenny need to be commended for their ongoing efforts.

MIFGs report – tabled at last meeting and a list of improvements have been agreed to. Paul is already planning next year's event. His work and commitment we commend. He is an important team member with valued skills. MIFGs outcome was also to document an end-of-exhibition reporting proforma to assist with this activity and also planning an event

ASV Committee Update

Social Media Update – Acknowledging Aukje and Chris for all for their ongoing commitment in all areas ‘social media’. We are drafting a social media procedure to streamline planning and all things social media. There is a training event for anyone who would like additional skills in this area (below)

Annual and Awards – the Committee voted that we will hold 2023 at the VAS during June. We have entered into a relationship with VAS and will be working with them on activities that are mutually beneficial. Exciting times ahead!

Tessellar - Aukje looks like she is putting her hand up for next year. Great! No coordinator was found for 2022 so we withdrew. If you would like to possibly coordinate this event next year or another event...please contact us.

Art on the Hill - Sept 9 - Paul will be coordinating this event.
Backyard and Garden Show 9- 10 July This event was trialled – Bruce will report on this event at a

later date.

Workshop for writing statements about work - A review of what is available will be canvassed and information included in a future Newsletter.

SALE – Port of Sale on 28 October – 1 November 2022 – going ahead looking forward to seeing you there! Gavin, the event coordinator who’s doing an exceptional job creating partnerships in this region.
