View from a slightly wobbly chair

With the Annual fast approaching my thoughts are with how works are presented. As artists we can often overlook the way our work is packaged, Andy Warhol made a whole art form out of this word. It is all too easy to lose ourselves in our creative process and detach our connection with the world. Let the art speak for itself I hear some of us say although true, our art can sometimes appear a little lost when set down in the field of opportunity.

Dates for Your Diary

Meetings are held at the Ashburton Baptist Church Meeting Rooms entered from the Marquis Street car park. We commence at 7:30pm

• On 9th September we will preface our Annual and Awards Exhibition with a wide ranging discussion - how do you price your work? There was an article from Michael Meszaros on the subject in the July newsletter. What is sculpture? What are the judges like for the Andor Meszaros Prize section? Why do we have two sections for our Annual Exhibition - All questions to discuss in good company - we’ll see you there. And what has Jan Indrans been up to all this time?
• In October there won’t be a meeting while we cope with the Annual Exhibition
• The AGM will be held on 11th November
• and on 22nd November we celebrate the ASV Christmas at Marg and Don Carey’s place in Chirnside Park... see the article later in the newsletter

Life is frantic for the Annual Exhibition team - Gillian is pulling everything together - and only she knows how big EVERYTHING is!

The August Meeting - Meridian Foundry

The visit to Meridian Foundry was great. I have never had any experience with doing bronze work. It was interesting to see the different stages of process to get to the final bronze. An extremely time consuming process. I can now justify the $ value of a bronze sculpture. The people working at the foundry all seem to have a passion in what they are doing.

The new knowledge gained is always an inspiration.
