Giacometti Sale:
Bloomberg reported on February 3 /4 a sale of an Alberto Giacometti sculpture “L‟Homme Qui Marche I” (“Walking Man I”) for a record 65 million pounds ($103.4 million). It was conceived in 1960 and cast in an edition of six. However a unique 1952 Giacometti painted plaster sculpture, “Petit Buste sur Colonne,” did not sell, as fragility of plaster was a problem with buyers. The sale confirms observations made in the December newsletter of the continuing strength of the art market for the most desirable classic modern works. The Financial times February 27 reported on the exhibition, mentioning exhibits include 'Reclining Figure' (1939); „Atom Piece (Working Model for Nuclear Energy)‟ (1964-65); „Tube Shelter Perspective: The Liverpool Street Extension‟ (1941). Moore is described as trying to “broaden sculpture‟s vocabulary beyond the classical and the fluid modeling of Rodin by exploring primitivism”
