Giacometti Sale:
Bloomberg reported on February 3 /4 a sale of an Alberto Giacometti sculpture “L‟Homme Qui Marche I” (“Walking Man I”) for a record 65 million pounds ($103.4 million). It was conceived in 1960 and cast in an edition of six. However a unique 1952 Giacometti painted plaster sculpture, “Petit Buste sur Colonne,” did not sell, as fragility of plaster was a problem with buyers. The sale confirms observations made in the December newsletter of the continuing strength of the art market for the most desirable classic modern works.
