"Creativity takes courage." - Henri Matisse

Last weekend I took myself on the train to Kyneton and visited Jason Waterhouse’s exhibition “Slump” in the Kyneton stockroom. It was the second last day of the exhibition and that reminded me of the coffee cup slogan - if it weren’t for the last minute nothing would ever get done. Life is like that for most of us - and sometimes the last minute slips by with that famous whooshing sound and leaves us in its wake.

Gallery One at the Kyneton Stockroom had been painted a uniform white for Jason’s exhibition. Combined with uniform lighting the effect was to lose focus on walls and edges of the space - I felt as if the exhibition leapt out at me from a whiteout fog.

Where is our next Treasurer coming from?

Our current treasurer, John Ride, is a lovely person - he shares friendship, food and wine and conversation at committee meetings and keeps calm through all our exhibitions. John joined us after retiring more than ten years ago. He was not an accountant - why on earth would someone “leave off work to carry bricks”? But he has developed all the skills we need using MYOB and so we know where we stand financially.

We have grown a lot on John’s watch - from two exhibitions per year to four in some years; our website goes through expansion and refurbishment - think of the leap to online exhibitions that we managed due to COVID lockdowns; our membership management is currently undergoing some streamlining with the new website; so on a small budget Sculptors Victoria is flourishing.

EVENING AT GILLIAN’S

“It was heartening to have so many come for a chat in Gillian’s deep autumn red painted lounge / gallery on Wednesday evening.
The talk ranged from pets, sculptures, making moulds, Gillian’s art on the wall to the fire and weather.
Just a normal get together.
Thanks Gillian for hosting such a lovely comfortable evening”. (Editor)

At each exhibition there is unnecessary confusion on the matter of plinths. New members are occasionally surprised that they are required to supply their own plinths for their sculptures.
