Maxine Wain Curator’s Award. Victorian Artists Society Winter Exhibition 2025

Maxine Wain - 'Aten'

Maxine's sculpture is cleverly executed. The masonry circular nature of the piece gives a sense of it being endless, but not perfect. A wonderful perspective and statement on what life truly is.

Hi , You’re warmly invited to the exhibition opening of

‘Tales the Trees Told Me’

Wood sculpture exhibition by Shlomit Moria

  • Warburton Waterwheel Gallery
  • Opening Saturday 6 September, 1pm
  • Exhibition runs: 1–30 September 2025 10am - 4pm
This new exhibition, Tales the Tree Told Me, is my quiet act of rebellion against the relentless streams of news and information that stir outrage, grief, division and fear. In a noisy world, I want my work to invite you to pause - to notice joy, beauty, and the gentle hope found in nature.

In this body of work, I’m exploring a new direction. Alongside my signature large-scale sculptures, I’m introducing delicate, small-scale carvings inspired by the community whittling workshops I’ve led across Victoria - including with rural communities and people recovering from natural disasters.

Carving in miniature teaches us to slow down and pay attention. Every tiny cut makes a difference. It’s a mindful, healing practice - and a way of telling new stories.

Tales the Trees Told Me is a collection shaped by community, storytelling and nature. It’s my offering of art as sanctuary - joyful, grounded, and alive.

I’d love to see you at the opening on Saturday 6 September at 1pm.

If you can’t make it, I’d be happy to see you another time during September
