President's Letter for April

A view from the chair
"Breakdown" Jan Indrans
at the 2014 Annual Exhibition

Writers block is a phenomena that often occurs in my creative pursuits and sadly that occurrence is affecting the writer of this article. Therefore I will grab what ever is at hand as I sometimes do in my art and see if these bits will contribute to a cohesive whole.

With the recent committee meeting having concluded I wish to share my view of some of the topics discussed.

With publicity in place we looked at making small beginnings by looking at our mission statement which appears at the top of this newsletter and abbreviating it so that we can use it in various stationery items that promote the Association. It is the view of this president that dare I say we ‘re brand’ ourselves to appeal to a larger public. It was felt that the Association needs to offer a degree of prestige to encourage sculptors to join and exhibit. This lead to the question of whether we have enough financial inducement in our prize money to reward exhibition winners, perhaps an alternative lure should be considered?

Regarding this newsletter the chair suggested that we dispense with the hard copy and because some of you don’t have computers ( is that really so?) , we must retain it. The newsletter is hard work for a staff of one who also has another role so let me recite the ongoing mantra; we desperately require help in this area whether editor or helper the job doe not require a steep learning curve.

The chair inadvertently decided to tackle the topic of the web site and discovered that it was a sensitive topic to discuss partly because so much work has gone into it. Dare I say that a vigorous discussion ensued.

With regard to the Annual still no definite bites as to location but we are working hard on it. Yay see below - we have a venue!

Leaving committee issues aside this president will be away overseas during June and July so will not be writing a president’s letter. Hopefully on his return there will be food on offer .

Does any one read this???
