Andamento

 June 5, 2015 - August 2, 2015
This exhibition showcases five artists who work in the mosaic medium: Rachel Bremner, Donna Broadbent, Mikiah Nguyen, Cetta Pilati and Bev Plowman. Combining age old mosaic techniques and traditional materials of marble and smalti with modern materials of stained glass and found objects, the artists transform rigid materials to reveal Andamento; the rhythm and visual flow of their work.
The mosaic medium is tactile and emotive, with each piece of tesserae cut and placed by hand. As the process evolves, elements are imprinted with ideas, emotions and deliberations. The investment of the artist’s personality and the intimate connection it forms with the viewer makes these works unique.

Guest Curator: Fiona Tettman

Probably worth mentioning.. I have a sculpture garden at Jindivick and I have just built a small gallery on the site. It is called the Red Tree Gallery and it is available for exhibitions at $50 a week and 10% commission for a month at a time...mainly it is to show off my small works but it also will have wall shows concurrently. It is in Jindivick- about an hour from Melbourne and a fairly quiet part of the world but I am doing reasonably well from both the tourist trade and our local art scene. At present it is booked through to around Feb next year but it might be worth keeping in mind for small shows... at least come and look... and the Jindivick Sculpture show starts next Saturday for 2 weeks with 66 entries.

Jackie Mackinnon, is currently exhibiting some work at the Brunswick Street Gallery.

Jackie sculpts in wax, in a different way to a sculptor preparing for a lost wax bronze. She learnt her art in New York and will be running workshops to pass this technique on. It is quite special.
