Sculpture among the Tulips 2010The Third Annual Tesselaar Sculpture Prize is almost upon us. The Prize has become an exciting new addition to the famous annual Tesselaar Tulip Festival.
Entries are due to close on Friday, 16 July.
The Tulip Festival – in Silvan in the Dandenong Ranges - has been well-established for over 50 years, and runs for four weeks from mid-September to mid-October. The Festival attracts about 50,000 visitors to the many organised activities and popular events.
This year an Acquisitive Award of $7,500 is being offered by Tesselaar to the sculptor winning the Tesselaar Sculpture Prize. A People’s Choice Award of $500, as voted by visitors to the Festival, will also available. One lucky visitor to the Festival will also be selected to win a voter’s prize.
Organised by Tesselaar, and with some assistance from the Association of Sculptors of Victoria, the Tesselaar Sculpture Prize is becoming an established component of Victoria’s arts calendar.
Rachael Pearce, marketing co-ordinator at Tesselaar, said, “As part of continuing our program of developing the Tulip Festival we have been very pleased with the development of the exhibition and competition. The intention is to grow the prize into a significant annual sculpture event and we hope that this year’s increase in prize-money is a step in that direction.”
The Tesselaar Sculpture Prize is a wonderful opportunity for visitors to the Tulip Festival to view and appreciate a range of sculptural styles and mediums in a unique and colourful outdoor setting.
Visitors will be privileged to view sculptures created by some of Victoria’s finest sculptors.
The Tesselaar Tulip Festival will be open each day between 10:00am and 5:00pm, from 16
September to 13 October.

CREATION OF SPORTING ACTION: SPARTA 2010
Memorial Hall, Walwa
27 – 29 August 2010
>The Challenge:The exhibition is open to all artists working in any medium; we would like artists to create a
piece which celebrates or reflects some aspect of sport. The focus (since SPARTA is the brainchild of the Border Walwa Football and Netball Club), is, but not limited to, Football (AFL) and Netball.
>The Objective:
The SPARTA exhibition is designed to create a collision between Sport and Art, the fall out is
expected to generate a new or greater appreciation of both spheres of endeavour from followers of the opposite persuasion. We would particularly like to encourage and engage children in the artistic experience, both from a creative and appreciation perspective. The exhibition will be quirky and fun in order to engage community members who are not usually frequenters of galleries, but will still maintain a high standard to satisfy serious art lovers.
>The Reward:
Artists will profit from the exposure of their works and talent to a new and enthusiastic audience. Pieces will be available for sale, so artists have a financial incentive to exhibit. The exhibition will be judged by a panel of art and photography experts who will generate a list of prize winners in the following categories:
SPARTA 2010 Most Outstanding Art Work of the exhibition
SPARTA 2010 Most Outstanding Photograph of the Exhibition
Best Art Work from a local artist (within a 70Km radius of Walwa)
Best Photograph of subject matter from the 2010 UMFL Season.
Best work from a junior (<15 years) exhibitor
& four other categories to be determined by the judges depending on the entries.
Prize values are yet to be determined and will be dependent on sponsorship and budget
constraints. We anticipate that the prize pool will be well in excess of $2000.
Winning and commended works will (with the artists’ consent) be exhibited at the Albury Library Museum or Albury Art Gallery soon after SPARTA 2010.
>The Program:
Closing date for entry forms: July 30, 2010
Delivery of works: Art and photography work must be delivered to venue between 23/8/2010 and
25/8/2010. Works will then be catalogued and hung.
Exhibition Dates: SPARTA 2010 will run between 27/08/2010 and 29/08/2010.
SPARTA 2010 Opening gala event will be 7pm Saturday, 28/08/2010.
Fees:
There will be a $5 (TBC) entry fee for each art work, which must be presented in a “ready to hang” state. Freight fees re delivery and return of pieces to the artists shall be the artists’ responsibility.
Pieces which are sold at the event will attract a commission payable to BWFNC of 5%.

Dear Michael,
In July 2010 the Law Institute of Victoria (LIV) will launch the first edition of the National Guide of Expert
Witnesses.
Containing an extensive listing of experts across many specialist areas, this publication will be an invaluable
resource for lawyers. Expert witnesses are frequently required by our members and the greater legal profession
when preparing cases and for court appearances.
The Guide will be distributed free to practising lawyers in July via the Law Institute Journal (LIJ), New South Wales Law Society Journal and the Queensland s Proctor journal. It will also be distributed to the national media.
This means that over 46,000 copies will be distributed to lawyers in Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland.
In recognition of the expertise and professionalism of members of Association of Sculptors of Victoria the LIV would like to offer your members a discounted rate to be listed in the 2010/2011 National Guide to Expert Witnesses.
Members can take up a standard listing or choose from a range of advertising sizes.
As a professional association we would like you to encourage your members to get listed in the Guide so they may receive a 15% discount on any listing they require.
Advertisements may be supplied or created here to meet your requirements Apply for the media kit which contains further information. Were very excited about this Guide and think it will be a fantastic resource for lawyers. Many of our members have been asking for such a title for some time, so I know it will be very well received.
If you have any queries please don’t hesitate to contact me on 03 9607 9496 or Marese 03 9607 9337.

Thanks are due to this winery for their continuing support of ASV functions. KOOYONGA CHAPEL WINERY is next to a ribbon of bush that runs from the Great Australian Divide down to Benalla. It is a small winery owned and operated by the Saunders family. The winemaker is Barry Saunders. 20 acres are planted with equal areas of Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc. First plantings were in 2000. The mild
climate extends the ripening period and adds to the complexity and intensity of flavour in the grapes. See:
