The next publication will be a simple ASV news sheet in January, with another full Sculpere in February 2011. Katherine as editor will be making a number of changes to the publication, and will welcome feedback to her at the contact address on this page.
Members are asked to note the next ASV exhibition opening Saturday 15 January at Herring Island, where Jenny Rickards will lead off the Herring Island Summer Arts Festival Sequence of Exhibitions.
Members are reminded to plan for works for next year’s exhibitions, following the Herring Island Exhibition: The Elliot ASV Gallery second cycle (members only, early March), The Melbourne International Flower & Garden Show (from 23 March), and the first Castlemaine Exhibition (members only, from 1 April). The coincidence of events should keep everyone very busy.
The new Elliot ASV Gallery opened for the fi rst time on Saturday afternoon, 20 November 2010 at South Yarra, in superb weather and with a good crowd. Wine donated by Kooyonga Chapel Winery and Vineyard was much appreciated. See the report enclosed.
Our Christmas function at Tim and Diane Kervin’s was another very pleasant event, with great
hospitality provided and the customary delicious pavlova. Unfortunately I am short on pictures this year.
We trust members and their families have a good Christmas and a pleasant break, and we look forward to meeting at the Herring Island Exhibition next year.

Sculptures for submission to the Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition
Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show
The Association of Sculptors of Victoria invites sculptors to enter work for the outdoor sculpture exhibition at the Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show Carlton Gardens – Royal Exhibition Building on Wednesday, 30 March to Sunday 3 April 2011.
There are $5,000 worth of prizes across three sections (carving, moulding & fabrication).

Due to popular demand another visit to Fundere Foundry for 2011 will be organised for members. Also, Ruth Lyons who was unfortunately unable to speak to us in October due to illness is very eager to speak in the New Year.

Herring Island Exhibition: Conditions amended to say $50 for non-members.
The Committee resolved that in future all ASV exhibitions will be “Members only” unless otherwise specified.
Annual Exhibition: It was resolved that Monica and Beatrice be appointed joint co-ordinators for 2011 annual
It was resolved that the Light Factory Gallery is booked for next year 7th – 18th September 2011.
Marija reported 11 sales (6 figurative pieces sold) $8,055 for the recent 2010 exhibition.
Elliot ASV Exhibition: Monica reported that approximately 20 entries received; opening is 20th November.
Newsletter: It was resolved that Katherine Harrington be appointed to be editor for one year, producing a newsletter each 2 months, with Geoff producing a simple news sheet on alternate months.
It was resolved that Marija and Gillian be appointed to undertake public relations for the ASV for the coming year
Treasurer’s report: Cash disbursements listing tabled; Profit statement year to date reviewed.

One and a half day workshops.
Saturday 22nd January 10am to 4.30pm and Sunday 23rd January 3.00pm to 5pm.
(The workshop on the 5/6 December is fully booked)
Cost $110, including glue & grout, but tiles & item to be mosaiced incurs extra cost.

1 December 2010: The Incredible Challenge of Being
Sydney College of the Arts
This free forum and workshop will explore diverse approaches and attitudes by artists to the creative industries.
Session 1: 11am 1pm
The Forum brings together four creative professionals from diverse backgrounds tracing their career genealogies and the application of their creative skills beyond the studio and traditional gallery pathways. Speakers include: David Handley,
Founding Director, Sculpture by the Sea, Michael Hill, Contemporary Artist and Founding Director of Lightwell, Fenella Kernebone, Presenter for ABC’s Artnation and Tamara Winikoff, Executive Director of NAVA.
Session 2: 2pm 3.30pm
The Forum will be followed by a workshop hosted by NAVA, concentrating on best business practices for artists. The workshop will address issues of grant writing, artist statement and curriculum vitae production as well as covering a range of basic business skills and knowledge including becoming a sole trader and copyright. 13 December 2010: Building Relationships: Getting your practice out there, Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre
This professional development forum and workshop will be focused on how artists can develop relationships with public and commercial galleries.
Session 1: 11am 1pm Four industry professionals will be invited to speak about the processes of approaching and working with public and commercial galleries, how to build relationships and what to expect from dealers, curators and administrators.
Session 2: 2pm 3.30pm
This workshop session will focus on how to write an artist statement, CV and grant applications as well as art business basics.

2011 TOORAK VILLAGE SCULPTURE EXHIBITION - “CALLING FOR ENTRIES”
‘A DECADE OF SCULPTURE’
The Toorak Village Sculpture Exhibition is the most innovative and important annual event to take place in the Toorak Village, where we link the arts with business to form a unique cultural experience. During the entire month of May we exhibit contemporary sculptural works in the shop windows and on the sidewalks of Toorak Rd. Each year it continues to grow with increased enthusiasm from traders, artists & the public that view & buy sculpture.
2011 will be the 10th year of the Toorak Village Sculpture Exhibition and we invite all emerging and prominent sculptors to submit entries for both interior & exterior installation.
· Interior – small to medium sized for exhibition in shop windows & must be displayed on an independent white base (supplied by artist). Remember our shop window sizes do vary & the sculptures must share window space with shops merchandise.
· Exterior - large sized, extremely robust & able to be fixed/bolted to footpath for installation along Toorak Road. There will be 8 to 10 sites available.
Curator – Malcolm Thomson, presently curator of the Clement Meadmore Gallery at the Australian Academy of Design will assist the exhibition committee with the selection of sculpture for the 2011 exhibition. A prestigious opening in the Toorak Village, a full colour catalogue, signage, posters & an impressive media campaign. Once again it is proudly supported & sponsored by the City of Stonnington along with Toorak Village businesses. Prizes to be announced.

GALLERY OPENING

The Elliot ASV Gallery, at 356-358 Punt Road, South Yarra, 3141, was formally opened on Saturday afternoon with around 70 Elliot patrons and ASV artists present.
Twenty-eight exhibits were shown, both outside in a pleasant courtyard setting and indoors in the Elliot salon. Three pieces sold at the opening. The exhibition has been coordinated by Monica Mauer, and assisted by Michael Meszaros and Marija Patterson. It was convened
using some works from other exhibitions and some new works. Appreciation was expressed to John Elliot for providing the ASV its first ongoing display space.
The exhibition will run until 26 February 2011, and the intention is that a fresh wave of exhibits will be presented for around 3 months from early March.
The exhibition is open Tuesday to Saturday 9.00 am to 5.00 pm with viewing on Sunday
and Monday by appointment only.
