President’s Message

October 15th will be our Annual General Meeting - the format is predictable - a guest speaker, the minutes of the previous AGM, reports on the year’s activities and the election of office bearers for 2027.

I met our guest speaker, Daniel Agdag, when he stepped up to lead the judging team at the Annual and Awards Exhibition. Jude Bridges Tull introduced Daniel after our invited judge was unexpectedly unavailable. And we were so grateful. Daniel’s considered and knowledgeable comments inspired not only the prize winners but all the sculptors and visitors as they took in the exhibition.

So why would you come to your AGM? Particularly if you might be encouraged to participate in the activities? Well precisely because of the activities - we are our own tribe - we share a desire to “say it with sculpture” - no matter what IT is. Not everyone can contribute in the same way - and just as well - we need all our friends - on the day and in the planning and negotiation… and we need to hear about things that aren’t going well because otherwise how are we going to improve?

Four years ago I offered to serve as president mainly to assist the revamp of the Sculptors Victoria website. It took most of the four years and I'm pretty happy with the results - I hope you are getting more out of it too.

The constitution says that you need a new president after four years - I agree - a new president and a fresh project will be fun - who will take on the challenge? Call me to discuss 0418 971 897 - or contact our returning officer secretary@sculptorsvictoria.asn.au to make a formal nomination.

Here are the duties of the president - as you can see it’s a flexible definition and can be interpreted according to your situation in life and art.

The President is responsible for over-all direction of the Association, and chairs meetings of Ordinary Members and the Executive Committee, unless he/she advises that he/she is not available. The President is entitled to receive notice of all meetings of Ordinary Members, the Executive Committee, and Sub- Committees

• Chairs meetings
• Guides the agenda/program for the year (including some fun!!!)
• Writes a president’s message for the newsletter.
• Writes a forward for the annual and awards exhibition
• Officiate at openings of exhibitions
• Deals with administration issues.
• There is always help and support from other committee members, past presidents and vice president.

I’ll see you at the AGM online or in person - to catch up, to recall the past year, to plan next year - it will be an enjoyable evening.
