Social Media Group

In one of the Zoom meetings during Covid the use of social media as a means of promotion came up. A few members who were interested got together and we had a great presentation by Shae Isaac (our expert) on the use of Instagram and Facebook to promote events like art exhibitions.

After this meeting a few members formed a new working group- which was appropriately named; the social media working group (you can’t be creative all the time)

Chris, Andre and Aukje have been looking into the use of these platforms as a means of keeping members of ASV together- Now that covid has made participation of rural members easier via zoom, we would love to keep this connection. Our SM survey confirmed what we thought!  So, we will create a closed Facebook group, in which members who want can chat, show and ask casually, in a safe way that is separate from our public face as association.

We are currently creating some content to get the conversation going.

We have also experimented with posting more often on our own accounts.

It was interesting that what Shae told us turned out to be true - when engagement grows, followers grow, and- who knew; sales/commissions grow!

Therefore we are now devising a strategy to promote our first exhibition of 2021; Herring island.

This will be an experiment for us as a working group- how we work together, what works, what doesn’t (hint- putting the wrong date in a post does NOT work- but it does get a lot of attention!)  and hopefully we will be able to see what the effects are of our efforts- and we can reflect after the online exhibition whether we did create more interaction, visits and hopefully; sales.

To do all of this properly we will need content - and lots of it!

It would be good if anyone could send us photo’s, stories etc, so we can publish them. We will create content with what you deliver. Anything you would like to have promoted, (including your social media tags) .

Photos need to be of the best possible quality (no messy background) we might need to edit photos to make them fit the media.

We will very probably start to hassle everyone soon.

Especially for Herring island this will be important as we have very little time to create a full campaign.

The email address for SM content is;  asvsocialmedia@gmail.com

We will make mistakes!  So, for a while, be gentle, while we do our best to promote you, your work, our exhibitions and the ASV as good as we can.

Andre, Aukje and Chris.
