The Association of Sculptors of Victoria is an inclusive, not-for-profit collective of contemporary artists whose purpose is to inspire, stimulate and advance the appreciation, creation, and exploration of three-dimensional art in society.

From the President: April 2016

Dear members,
We cooperate as an association to advance the practice of sculpture and the reputation and appreciation of sculpture and sculptors in the community.
This is regardless of whether or not we make a living from sculpture and regardless of our preferred style or medium.
To this end we support artists’ moral rights; we advocate a professional attitude to the production and presentation of work and encourage the artistic and intellectual stimulation of interaction amongst artists of all persuasions.

The above is our philosophy. Most of our members would agree that with the informative newsletters about opportunities around Australia and within the association, a regularly updated website, meetings and visits to sculptor’s studios and a professionally run Exhibitions programme with prizes, not to mention the friendships formed we certainly fulfil this philosophy.

As with any organisation there is a great deal that goes on in the background to achieve this end. This has been possible until now for an average of 120 members at $75 per year subscription. However "The times they are a –changing" (Bob Dylan) We have managed with volunteers to maintain this subscription for over 10 years but our expenses have continued to rise. Printing, postage, advertising, catering, running, exhibitions, security etc etc. etc.

Committee has discussed a rise in subscriptions for some time but now it is inevitable. I have also talked to many of our members who feel that a rise in subscriptions would be reasonable. Our new fee structure can be seen at the end of this letter. We hope you will accept these changes so that the Association can be run at the high standard you have come to expect.

As you will also be aware. Mark Cowie has decided not to continue running the International Flower and Garden Show. This is a great loss and I have had feed back from many members and non- members about his experience and professionalism in running the exhibition. We have therefore offered him a remuneration to run the exhibition next year. He is giving this some thought.

If anyone has any objections to this proposal we will gladly listen. But we would need an alternative suggestion and people to take over from Mark.

The good news is that we are on track for the Annual and Awards exhibition. Entry forms are now available to be downloaded from our website and you will by now have received entry forms in the mail. Entry fees for the exhibition will remain unchanged.
Remember if you would like the chance for your work to be featured in our advertising material and Invitations please send high res. images to me as soon as possible as well as with your entry forms to Yvonne Monik.
Happy Sculpting
Gillian
