Herring Island 2016

The sculpture exhibition on Herring Island has now wrapped up. It was a great show and well received.

We sold five works and ran a People’s Choice Award for the first time. Images will be loaded onto the ASV website soon and can already be seen in the side bar of the newsletter site http://sculperenewsletter.blogspot.com.au.

The mayor of Stonnington, Cr Claude Ullin opened the show and launched the 2016 Summer Arts Festival which runs until April 3.

The People’s Choice Award was a dead heat between Michael Meszaros’s "Pursued" and Fatih Semiz’s "Quinarius".

The weather was kind to us - a little cloud and the threat of rain sometimes but no floods, fires or heat waves - wow! The island looked great and provided a refuge from frantic city life.

Parking was more of a problem than in the past.

Australia Day was, as usual, great fun. The ASV had John Bishop carving limestone, Elnaz and Monica running clay work for children of all ages and Marcela demonstrated her technique with polymer clay. The Basketmakers were well represented and very popular and Cressida Fox held the fort for Contemporary Art Society and A4 Art Australia. Damian Curtain of Friends of Herring Island ran a tour of the island. We had quite a few referrals from the Australia Day What’s On website and, from the following Thursday ABC 774 Breakfast interview with Red Symons.

And we all enjoyed the company of fellow artists and interesting visitors.
