Sculpture at Melbourne International Flower & Garden Show 2017

Each year the Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show is seen by 115,000 to 120,000 visitors. And not least amongst the attractions is the Sculpture Exhibition along the Grand Central Boulevard.


In 2017 MIF&GS will run from 29th March to 2nd April. It will be open 9:00am to 5:00pm plus twilight closing at 9:30pm Friday 31st. March.


MIF&GS is held in the historic Royal Exhibition Building and Carlton Gardens. You will find further information, directions on how to get there and booking information at melbflowershow.com.au

Sculpture Exhibition: 

The exhibition of garden and courtyard sculpture is held in the beautifully scenic and majestic Grand Central Boulevarde (Sec A84).

You can find outdoor sculpture and garden art in a range of styles and media, sizes and colours, at a range of prices, created by prominent, professional, semi-professional and emerging sculptors from across Victoria. 

 

Some of the works entered for the 2017 exhibition

The sculpture is displayed – and judged - in three sections (a) carved works (b) formed or cast works (c) fabricated works and installations. Each year we show over 100 works suitable for garden/courtyard areas, large properties, corporate spaces and home decoration (The average over the past few years is about 120 works.) There are thousands and thousands of People’s Choice Award votes lodged by viewers of the exhibition. This is one of Australia’s longest-running (over 20 years) and largest outdoor sculpture exhibitions (by number of sculptures on display).


The opening function and presentation event will be held on Wednesday, 29th March at East Imperial Restaurant, Carlton. For invitations to this event please contact the curator whose details can be found below.

From the President

Hi all,

January is nearly over and we have already held a successful exhibition at Herring Island.. Well done to all exhibitors and organisers. Now we have to get our creative juices flowing again. How hard that is at this time of year when it is hot, the tennis is on and we are trying to exercise to get rid if all the weight we put on over the festive season.

I am speaking from experience and finding it difficult to be creative. How great it is to have exhibitions to work towards. Entry forms are due for the Toorak Village exhibition and our own display at the International Flower and Garden Show.

Our first exhibition of the year was blessed with mild weather. Visitor numbers were lower than usual for the first few days - perhaps because the punt service was restricted by the build up of silt in the river. The punt operators coped with overheating engines and difficult landing access with calm and skill but a reduced trip frequency. Nevertheless the visitors who came were a pleasure
