Editor's Inspiration and President's letter for November

“Seeing is believing, but sometimes the most real things in the world are the things we can’t see.” – Chris Van Allsburg (from Polar Express)

Let’s start the report on what we have done in the last month with the Annual General Meeting - at the end of October. We had a great talk by Michael Meszaros OAM - all those who stayed away missed a treat. There were the usual reports - we are running a break-even budget - balancing capital expenditure on such things as the website against our long term gains over the years.

After that we moved onto the election of the office bearers for 2026. We only “elect” the principal positions: president, vice president, treasurer, secretary & public officer and two “ordinary” members. All the coordinators who work to keep the organisation running are “co-opted” - hah! Thank you to all volunteers - thank you to all the 2025 committee who are back again, unchanged, for 2026.

November came and with it our first exhibition in the Castlemaine Market Building. What a response we had with entries! There were so many the committee finally decided to accept only one work from each entrant. Well at least no one missed out but we whimpered a bit over the sculptures that were not included. The exhibition looked great and was well received. We sold three works and we are not giving up hope for online sales after the end of the physical show. Congratulations to Aaron Jones and his team… Aaron named everyone on the team in his opening remarks - well done! In a couple of weeks we’ll gather for our end of year party - I’ll look forward to meeting many of you there - away from the tension of exhibition organising - to celebrate a year of great activity.

But don’t relax just yet: entries are already open for the 2026 Sculpture @ Melbourne International Flower & Garden Show and will be open very soon - if not as you read this - for Herring Island Summer Arts Festival 2026 all accessed on  https://sculptorsvictoria.asn.au/exhibitions/application_forms

So happy sculpting everyone - I’ll look forward to seeing where your sculpture journey takes you
