Message from Ioanna Thymianidis

Ioanna presented a virtual reality visual interactive statue in this year’s A&A. Now she has been asked to enter the Florence Biennale.

‘Time is ticking, I am in my Indonesia studio punching out my artwork for the Florence Biennale.

 

"Held under the patronage of UNESCO and the European Parliament, the XIV Florence Biennale is one of the world’s leading international exhibitions of contemporary art and design, bringing together 600 artists from over 80 countries. From thousands of applications across the globe, IΩANNA will stand as the only artist representing the Northern Territory, one of six from Australia, and twelve from Greece.

At the Biennale, IΩANNA will present sculptural works with multimedia and Virtual Reality components, exploring the collision of Australia’s natural environment, human intervention, and speculative mutation. She will present new work and her award-winning project Logos Waking Up that probes the shifting relationship between place, technology, and transformation.

The Florence Biennale runs 18–26 October 2025 at the Fortezza da Basso, Florence, Italy."
