New President's Letter

Hello Sculptors Victoria!

First my concern for all of you impacted by the floods – I hope you are all safe.

Fortunately, Sale is currently exempt from the inundation and Gavin Roberts reports that all is proceeding well for the Victorian Sculpture Prize exhibition over Cup Weekend. I’m looking forward to meeting you there – in real life once again.

The ASV has held its Annual General Meeting for 2022. The acting president’s report on the year’s activities is here and the treasurer’s financial report is here.

I would like to thank the outgoing office bearers:

Gillian Govan has stood up as president, acting president, guide and mentor to the 2022 presidential team – and that was after a stint as secretary and while she coordinated the Annual and Awards Exhibition. She is still on the committee as one of the ordinary members – but there is nothing ordinary in her performance. Thank you, Gillian.

John Bishop has been our secretary and public officer for at least ten years. I can remember committee meetings when the minutes hit our inboxes before many of us had arrived home – oh for the days of face-to-face meetings! John has contributed to exhibitions and carving demonstrations and interacted with visitors at MIFGS and Herring Island. He is continuing as a committee member and we are grateful for his contribution, knowledge and support.

And now: welcome to incoming office bearers and thank you to the continuing coordinators.

Gunnel Watkins’ introduction to the committee was by fire ordeal when she was a member of the presidential team of 2022. Her enthusiasm is undimmed as she takes on the role as secretary and public officer. Thank you and welcome Gunnel.

Yvonne Monik has been working in the background on so many of our projects so quietly that sometimes it seems as if the work does itself – it does not. She is now Vice President and will be a highly valued and valuable member of the executive. Thank you, Yvonne, for your skill, dedication and talent.

As usual the current committee and coordinator members are listed at the end of the newsletter – or on the office bearer page of our newsletter blog

Next, for all members, is an invitation to meet sculptor, Jon Eiseman, at the home of our activities officer, Jude Bridges-Tull. Information is in the diary dates section of the newsletter. Jude is looking forward to coordinating an exciting program in 2023 so please send RSVP’s, ideas and offers to activities@sculptorsvictoria.asn

Thank you and see you at our activities,
Jenny Rickards
