The Annual & Awards Exhibition 2019 is fast approaching

Yvonne Monik with her work in 2017
After all the excitement of the Melbourne Flower and Garden show we are already planning the next exhibition.

We had a great exhibition at Bourke Place last year but unfortunately due to building renovations being done we are unable to have the exhibition there this year.

It has been a frustrating and tedious task looking for a new venue that can accommodate the scale of the ASV Annual exhibition. Many times, between Gillian and myself we felt so close to securing a venue – but only to be knocked back. A huge thanks to all the members that gave us leads on venues. These were all followed up on.

Dates for Your Diary

There is plenty of sculpture action on the program! And more being planned...

Wednesday 8th May - mould making 7:30pm at Gillian’s place. All welcome not only to learn but also to contribute to the discussion from your own experience.

In future we’ll run more information sharing workshops - more about pooling our resources than imparting superior knowledge - everyone has some experience to share and other sculptors want to know about it.... if you would like to coordinate such a workshop please let us know:

Visit to Mal Wood’s Foundry

Mal prepared and delivered demonstrations and explanations for the stages of wax preparation, investing or ceramic shell moulding, bronze pouring and finally patenation.... His advice? Research as much as you can before going to a foundry because the methods and finishes vary amazingly and you can get great variety to suit your style but you must communicate it to your foundry.

Bulleen Art and Garden & Bolin Bolin Gallery

BAAG have supported the ASV through sponsoring the demonstration event at MIFGS, supplying prizes and limestone. The Bolin Bolin gallery supports and promotes visual art in general. Now they need some support:.
The next stage of the North East Link planning process, the Environmental Effects Statement is out now and BAAG is still within the designated project area! We really want to continue here (on the site near the river), so we need to convince the EES panel that it is worth redesigning the construction compound so that we can stay and continue bringing you interesting art and exhibitions as well as garden necessities and advice.
If you haven’t signed our petition go to http://www.baag.com.au/save-baag-north-east-link/  or for more information http://www.baag.com.au/

From the President

Gillian Govan
The Melbourne Flower and Garden Show Sculpture Exhibition Wow! What an Inspiration to all the visitors, the sculptors and to the organisers. The works were fantastic.

The word INSPIRATION says it all.

The dictionary meaning for Inspiration is:
Stimulus (noun) --Spur, motivation, stimulation, encouragement.

Creativeness(noun) – Inventiveness, brilliance, vision, creativity, muse.

Idea (noun) – brainwave, insight, flash, revelation, brainstorm, bright idea.

I am sure we can all relate to the word Inspiration in our response to the exhibition and our artwork.

Visitors would also have been inspired to see the potential of sculpture to enhance their homes and gardens.

INSPIRATIONAL (adjective) – Inspiring, stirring, rousing, moving, encouraging, motivating.

This is what the Association is about. As a group, a family, a team we can be all of these things to each other.

Elnaz and one of the
well presented charts
A big thank you to Elnaz and Bez for running this session - and thanks too for alerting members to the space at Ladder Art Space. https://ladderartspace.com.au/ - it is worth considering for meetings, classes and exhibitions.

Elnaz gave us a good grounding in the social media available to us and the relative numbers of users and the reach we might have.

During the set up for MIFGS - no matter how stressful there is always time to help out, chat and connect with fellow sculptors... here are some moments I managed to catch....
