As usual the visit to a foundry was a great success. Though small in numbers the group was enthusiastic and excited to see a bronze pour. On arrival Ewen went through the process explaining different materials and methods of mould making.

From the President

Hi all,

I am sure I was only writing the presidents letter yesterday. Where does a month go?

I will use this opportunity to fill you in on a few things that have happened.

As you know we had an SOS from Blairgowrie Yacht Squadron requesting Sculptures for their exhibition. Thanks to all the sculptors who made such an effort to get their work there. They were delighted. Brownie points for you and the Association. – See report below

As you will know there has been discussion about a partnership and connection with McClelland Gallery and Sculpture Park. This unfortunately has not eventuated. However I have been assured that this is still a possibility. So we will keep communications open.

Dates for Your Diary

Thu 11 May - visit to Coates Studio Foundry at 10.15 am. Ewan Coates, who is also an artist, will talk about preparing work for casting and will do a "pour" for us. Limited to 25, so the first 25 to call me will be in. I will need to know numbers by no later than 2 May to confirm with Ewan.

Report on Blairgowrie Yacht Squadron Easter Exhibition

Blairgowrie Yacht Squadron Easter Art Show - and below we have a notice from Beaufort Art Exhibition

(Excerpt from Blairgowrie Yacht Squadron report)

Andrew Bryant
"The Second Performance"
We showcased a broad range of artistic works in a variety of media, with the introduction of sculptures adding a new dimension to the show that was very well received. We are still tallying up the final results of the Art Show but the feedback has been that it has been the Best Show on the Mornington Peninsula and the most successful Art Show to date at BYS. We had 323 works on display from 106 artists of which 31 were sculptures.

Rosa Tato at the April Monthly Meeting

"The minute she walked into the joint
I could see she was a gal of distinction
A real creator…..hard working and so refined".

We did get a projector to work eventually -
it required both luck and patience. Rosa and Marija waiting

Following some challenges relating to acquiring and operating a projector for Rosa’s images, this was how Rosa Tato was introduced at Wednesday’s meeting by Marija Patterson who, in 2002, was on the selection panel, interviewing candidates for a place into the BFA (Sculpture) course at RMIT. Rosa was amongst 120 people interviewed and was one of the 15 successful applicants.

Images of Your Work

Images of all the work in the MIFGS exhibition can now be seen on the ASV website - and of course on your profile page. Images for MIFGS and the Annual are taken by a professional photographer: Rob Anderson Photography (and crew). Full studio images would cost in the order of hundreds of dollars each. Sculptors may purchase high and low resolution images of their work - 3 - 5 per sculpture for $30/sculpture. Contact: mail@sculptorsvictoria.asn.au
