The May Excursion

As usual the visit to a foundry was a great success. Though small in numbers the group was enthusiastic and excited to see a bronze pour. On arrival Ewen went through the process explaining different materials and methods of mould making. He showed some works at different stages and in different materials. He explained the lost wax method and about runners, risers and sprews. Terms that were new to many.

The actual pour by leather clad Ewen and his assistant was small, but we were able to see the smooth running of the process. Before we left Ewen patiently answered our many questions. Thank you Ewen and thanks to Marija Patterson for organising the visit.
