Call for Expressions of Interest:

Footsteps Towards Freedom is a project based in Hobart,Tasmania, Australia. The FTF Team is made up of Tasmanian professionals working toward the same goal to "have a high quality artistic installation commemorating the arrival of the 1500 convict women and their children in the 19 Century. The women were sent to Tasmania as part of the forced transportation system from the British Isles." You can read more about the project, the history and and the extraordinary story on our website www.footstepstowardsfreedom.com.au.

We’ve been working on this project for about two years, and have recently secured a site for the sculpture/s: the forecourt of the Macquarie Wharf 1 development on Hunter Street, Hobart. This is the waterfront location where the convicts disembarked, so we are particularly pleased to have an agreement with the site developer for the forecourt space of a new development currently underway.

We are now ready to call for expressions of interest from artists, and the Artists’ Brief can be downloaded from our website at: http://www.footstepstowardsfreedom.com.au/artists-brief.html

You will also be able to see the business plan for the project and some of the background to its genesis.

We already have widespread support among our stakeholders and throughout the community more generally, and we feel certain that this project offers a very exciting opportunity for an artist or a team of artists.

If you would like to know more about the project, we would be happy to respond through our email: footstepstowardsfreedom@gmail.com.

 Possible Commission

My name is Silvio Mannello and i am a teacher and head of the Creative Art faculty at Mackillop Catholic College Werribee. We at the college are looking to commission a piece to be displayed within the grounds of the college. We have a design in mind that stems from a prize winning logo design from one of our students. Size and material have not been determined as yet. We are looking for a range of interested sculptors to quote us and possibly be prepared to talk to students during the process. If anybody could help us or point us in the right direction, i would appreciate it greatly. Obviously, a design brief and relevant images will be discussed with interested sculptors.
