President's Letter for January 2015

It was a delight to help launch the ‘Narrative’ exhibition on Herring Island recently. Once again I was staggered by the diversity of thought provoking works on show and meeting fellow sculptors and guests made for an invigorating day. And I must say that Herring Island is one of the more entertaining bump-ins we do.

Now down to business: The MIFGS is fast approaching and entry forms are to be in by 20th Feb these are available on line from our site.

The view beyond the MFGS is somewhat hazy. Sadly after our successful Annual exhibition at 120 Collins St. we have been advised that we cannot rebook this venue for this year’s event. Once again we are out on the street. The committee and the president are scanning the horizon but at this stage no home is in sight.

Ideally, and this is my view on the matter is that we need a regular and centrally located venue that attracts passing traffic. You may have other ideas or perhaps have a whiff of something out there that you or an acquaintance knows about that could suit our needs. Let us know and we can chase it up. There’s strength in numbers so if we all could devote a little time to our common predicament we may yet find a roof for our wares.

On a lighter note I would like to wish everyone a happy and creative 2015 and let art raise us above that enfolding turmoil.

Cheers.
 Jan Indrans
ASV President.
