Jindivick Sculpture Exhibition categories won by an International sculptor, a Modella man and a Jindivick teacher
The Jindivick sculpture show opened on Saturday 12 May by local federal member Russell Broadbent and the sculptures are set throughout the township of Jindivick. Over 30 sculptures are on display and the materials and ideas present are many and varied. The works total over $20,000 with most for sale.
One of the prize categories was for best use of Non traditional materials and this was won by International sculptor Pimpisa Tinpalit who is of Thai origin and has links to Thai universities. Her nearly 3 meter long sculpture called “The Couple” elicited many admiring comments. Runner up in this section was Anita George for “Flowing Thoughts”
The second category was for best use of traditional materials and this was won by Don Barrett (of Modella) for his wooden sculpture “Gumnuts”. Honourable mentions in this category went to Laurence Marshall for his recycled steel sculpture called ”Bird of Prey” and Kerrie Warren for her three pieces of ceramic work and other materials,” Hatchlings”, “The Warrior “and “Flame Thrower”
The third category was for Guerrilla Knitting and this was won by Jindivick teacher Joan Price for her work throughout the town including the “Love is all you Knit” on the Tennis court fence and the covered shovel in front of the Jindi Gardener. Runner up in this category was another local artist Janice Hunter for her “Autumn shower”.
Other sculptors represented were Graham Duell, Jessie McLennan, Zoe Clarke, Laurie Collins, Sue Coppock, David Forsythe, Bronte Hobson, Jeff Hyde, and Sandy and Joe Peeters,
Ken Kerchevall also has a display of his own sculptural work and the primary school also participated with the prize winners being on display at the Jindivick Store. The Bendigo Bank sponsored prizes in this section.
The Exhibition is supported by Baw Baw Shire, Gary Miles and the Jindivick Business Group and runs until Sunday 27th of May.
