President's Message October 2011

Geoff Williams President
Would all members please note in their diaries that Gillian Govan has kindly offered her abode for this year’s ASV Christmas party – BYO midday Saturday 19 November. Further details by email. In particular this is planned to provide an opportunity for us to see more of those in the bayside area.

For the information of all seeking fame, we are selecting sculptors as our Featured Sculptor in the newsletter with particular attention to the originality and innovation displayed in their work. Whilst your work may be charming, humorous, striking, well-finished etc, we are looking for those who go where no one has gone before in conveying their concept and message. Please bear in mind that we have a lengthening list of names to consider and do not feel offended if we have not yet caught up with you. Nominations may be sent direct to the Editors, Katherine & Zoe Harrington, email below. High resolution images of a variety of work will need to be provided for works to be included.

Monica has pointed out a particularly interesting web site showing works by Jaison deCaires Taylor in the Gulf of Mexico: http://www.underwatersculpture.com/index.asp.
Maybe some would find it stimulating as to local possibilities: creation of works in partnership with nature.

The year is drawing to a close and members are asked to plan to submit works for Herring Island and Melbourne Flower and Gardens Exhibitions next year.

This has been a very active year and we look forward to chat with you at Gillian’s on 19 November if you can make it.
