Editor's Quote and President's letter for April 2026

“It’s not what you look at that matters, it’s what you see.” (Henry David Thoreau)
Hello Sculptors!

This month you have two tasks:
  • Get your entry in to the Annual & Awards Exhibition and
  • Activate and update your presence on the ASV website
The entry forms for the Annual & Awards Exhibition hit the website as soon as MIFGS finished - they were ready even earlier. It is not ideal rolling from one exhibition to the next with little time to think about lessons learned and impressions created. At the moment we don’t have much choice - MIFGS is when it is and the Annual & Awards Exhibition currently has to fit into the Victorian Artists Society gallery availability. The ASV committee is looking at options - and if you have ideas that could help please let us know.

The Annual is our big event - we hope that all active members will enter at least one work. We gain a lot from meeting each other at set up and dismantle times - from casual meetings whilst sitting or visiting the exhibition, swapping thoughts about work, inspiration, materials and techniques… not to mention solving the problems of the world.

And thank you to Heather Wilson, our coordinator for 2026.
Always download and read the information/conditions of entry!
Visit https://sculptorsvictoria.asn.au/exhibitions/call-for-entries/2026-annual-awards-exhibition to enter.

CLOSING DATES FOR ENTRIES AAE 2026 MONDAY 18 MAY

Our website is at the same address it ever was: https://sculptorsvictoria.asn.au/ Take a look and see if you find it easy to navigate. The whole appearance will change at each phase of exhibition management: call for entries - entries closed and exhibition coming up - exhibition open and online - between exhibitions. The committee is still learning to drive the beast and little glitches - like the send out of the March Newsletter - can highlight assumptions we made that aren’t necessarily so… (the March Newsletter as first sent out only went to activated members - about 75 of us!)

Some people haven’t activated their profile on the new website - amazingly the password you set up on the old website did not transfer automatically. But the recovery process - the lost password email - still works, so use that to activate your account, check that you are financial and that all your details are correct on your profile. We now have social media links as an option so if you have an Instagram page for your work - tell the world! The page is still your profile with the ASV rather than a personal web page. So set up your own web page and link it to get full coverage of all your work and not just the work you show with Sculptors Victoria.

I look forward to seeing members at Tim Read’s place in 2nd May - travel safe everyone

Happy Sculpting Jenny Rickards
