ASV News
From the Social Media team
In 2020 Chris Anderson and I formed a social media team, as we saw a possibility for a more active
presence on social media.
Since then we have been actively promoting exhibitions in real life and online.
We have been able to increase the reach of our social media (Facebook and instagram) massively, which
is great because of course, with covid, it was hard to reach people in real life.
We also started a Facebook group for members of the ASV only, which functions as an easy way to communicate, ask questions, find help, share: ‘call for artists, support each other, etc. (ASV members group on Facebook)
The large advantage of social media platforms is that people ‘follow’ what they think is interesting- so that
makes it easy to target an audience, and reach the people that like sculpture, or art in general.
In this way it is a very focussed effort to advertise what we do- and our exhibitions. Compared to flyers in a
cafe, where a lot of people come, but are not necessarily interested, this is a lot more effective.
And- it's free!!!
THE BUT:
As social media grows organically - people need to find us, by searching for ‘interested’, or by ‘following’
hashtags (on instagram mainly) .
People who are not actively looking at a time we are advertising- don’t get reached.
This is where we all (ALL our members) can play a role.
Every time we have a show I make an ‘event’ on Facebook. If all members on Facebook share these
events a LOT (often)- they spread to your friends, their friends, and further (ask your friends to share as
well)
You can also create your own posts, copy the link of the event, and add a photo of your work in the show.
The more the event gets shared, the more free advertising we get!
On Instagram, you can create posts on the show, your work, or anything- and ‘tag’ the ASV (@sculptors_victoria or #sculptors_victoria) You can also add other # like; #sculpture, #melbourneart etc- look at the posts we made)
The more ‘buzz’ is created- the more instagram and Facebook will show our posts. So- you are all playing an important role.
SO- we need all of you to help actively by sharing, and posting repetitively to promote the shows- and the
ASV in general.
I understand quite well that it is annoying- but, free advertising is good, and not getting people to our
exhibitions is also quite annoying :-)
Secondly-
We would like to expand on our posts in between shows, as the aim of our team is also to promote the ASV, and gain more members. For this we are looking for ideas for content.
Ideas that have come up are;
- ● 1 minute long short time-lapse videos of artists in their studios’,
-
● snippets of text about a sculpture made- (plus image),
-
● a short video with an interview/ biography spoken, while photos of work rotate, etc- Obviously it
would be a way to promote your work,
-
● the ASV, and- very important- show what the ASV does, what kind of members we have, and in
general; show interesting stuff!
If anyone is interested in providing content- please do!
And- If anyone would like to help with writing little bits of text, that can be posted- we would love to have a
third member! If you are SM buff; Great!!!! But- if not, still very ok :-)
It's not a daily job (!)- we have a program that pre-plans, so we do multiple posts in one go. If you are not
proficient online, but write well- I can post your texts.

A Few Questions for You
As a new newsletter administrator and editor, I was curious as to how members prefer to read the
newsletter.
On what device.
Do you print the newsletter?
Download and scroll down on the ASV page and read online?
For example, I have never read the newsletter on my phone as a blog before.
SO, I have made a google form for you all to answer.
Please click on the text and choose an answer and click Submit.
How Do You Read The Newsletter?
Thanks,
Carmel
