Hi, I’m Carmel Ritchie

My latest way to fill in time and keep warm inside was to paint. Many years ago I bought some canvases with frames, so I decided to challenge myself to paint my son’s and our family dogs. I’ve never painted animals.

They were well appreciated but then my niece, nephew, sister in law and friend wanted one too.

Now I’m waiting for another online delivery of canvases. But,statues are calling me. As I use limestone, I find the warmer weather is great to carve outside. Itchy fingers.

My Dogs and Two Cats.

At least I was occupied during some of the LockDown 6.

Thanks, Carmel

For Sale - Stainless Steel Kitchen Benches

These 2 benches came from a renovated hotel kitchen and have been in my garden for years. Surprisingly, there were no resident red back spiders, but the other little things are free. Both benches have steel frames and a small ridge on one side.

Price negotiable.

I think some enterprising creative sculptor would love to cut into this material and make something new.

Membership Renewals

Membership renewals for this year were sent out mid July.  We have had a great response so far but there are still some to come.  For some people (me included) there has been a glitch in logging on to gain access to credit card payments by Stripe.  Your password does not work and if you use the lost password approach it still does not work.   Our website guru is still trying to resolve it.  If you can remember your password and log in to the website and then go back to the renewal email it works.  The alternative is just pay by transfer to the ASV account.    BSB   063 105    Account No    00800382.

We will be sending out further reminders once the password problem is fixed.

Student members - at the last committee meeting it was resolved that student members would be given 3 years free membership.  If you are a student and wish to avail yourself of this please let me know (treasurer@sculptorsvictoria.asn.au) so that we can record it and not bother you with requests for subs!. We are refunding any who have just paid for this year.

Cheers

John

I have is that I have started on paying refunds for entry fees to both versions of the Annual.  There has been the question of holding on to the next Annual but all gets messy and I want to start with a clean slate.

Cheers

John

"Flame Eternal"
Chris Anderson 2021
Hi sculptors and sculpture fans, as sculptors we all have the added challenge of being part time photographers when it comes to displaying our artwork.  Now more so than ever as we see online exhibitions taking the place of gallery events.  I was recently inspired by some beautiful artwork that our very own Gav Roberts had put together using an image of John Bishop's sculpture.  You may have seen it on our social pages.  Gavin had done a beautiful job of removing the background and it really made the sculpture pop on the page, so it got me thinking and googling.  There are many ways that you can remove the background from a picture, but the two that I think are best are both for free, which is the right price for me.

Firstly, if you are on a computer you can simply insert your picture into Microsoft word and then by right clicking on the image you can then remove the background.  It’s that easy.  Secondly, if you are like me and have teenagers that seem to be permanently attached to the computer, then you can download an app called pixel cut.  It’s free and let’s you remove the background from one picture per day.  The images below are an example of a sculpture pic I took with a very messy background and then with the background removed.  Have fun guys, and seriously, if I want access to my computers I need to submit a request in writing four weeks in advance.

Gallery Gift

We received this email in between newsletters and I haven’t had time to check it myself - but these days anything is worth investigating.

Hello dear ASV,

I am writing to invite your sculptors to apply for representation on my online art gallery called GalleryGift.

GalleryGift specialises in original art as gifts and also has a unique CoFund feature that makes it easy for a group of friends and family to "pitch in" for the one artwork as a gift for someone.
So it's perfect for big special occasions such as weddings, milestone birthdays, housewarmings etc (even during lock-down as it's all done online!). After everyone who wants to contribute has, the recipient gets a voucher and can choose an artwork for themselves fro the site or commission a GalleryGift artist to create a specific piece for them.

I would love to have more sculptors and their work available on GalleryGift.

It's completely free for artists to be set up with a profile and be available for commissions, it's just a 20% commission when a piece sells, no other costs for artists at all, but it is by application and approval only.

I will leave a link here that has a video with more information about how it works for artists:
