MIFGS 2020 Cancelled

Was the cancellation of the 2020 MIFGS a huge disappointment? It was a necessary measure and we are now waiting to see if the measures will be enough to flatten the infection curve and keep our health workers and ourselves safe.

The loss of exhibition opportunity is a blow - we can’t bank on a sale - but we can hope - now that hope has been dashed. The expectation of meeting fellow sculptors, of engaging with the public, of seeing our work professionally presented and of having a judge on site to encourage, critique and urge us on have all evaporated.

Compared to performance artists we are less impacted but still there is a price beyond the loneliness and isolation that everyone is feeling.

We need to take care of one another - from a distance

So far as the MIFGS exhibition is concerned we are currently planning an online exhibition. The idea is to put on the best show that we can - to showcase artists’ work and present both art and artists to the community. In these troubled time it is less likely that we will make sales - but firstly you never know and secondly a good show can inspire - and we all need that. It is something to work towards and something to show for the work that you have already put in. Refunds have been made for entry fees to the original exhibition - so this is, in some respects an entirely new enterprise.

Entry forms will be available in the next few weeks. In the meantime we have a lot of work to do to set up a new page on the website and to enable artists to produce sufficient documentation for such an exhibition. So “watch this space” - we are all looking forward to this new venture into the virtual and will give it our best shot.
