From the President
Our AGM is to be held on Wednesday 9th of October. We would urge members to attend to discuss the past year’s events and to hear what we have in store for the coming year. This of course include exhibitions and meetings. Please come to support your committee who have supported you throughout the year.
An added bonus for the evening is that Stuart Purves, director of Australian Galleries has agreed to talk to us about his interest and involvement in sculpture and his thoughts about the future of sculpture. Australian Galleries, opened in 1956, has developed a reputation for supporting prominent Australian artists. Under his sole directorship and with 13 staff, Stuart continues to represent significant contemporary Australian artists including the late Inge King, Colin Lanceley, William Robinson, Garry Shead, Jeffrey Smart, Tim Storrier and John Wolseley along with the Estates of George Baldessin and Lenton Parr, as well as a role in the Estates of Arthur Boyd, John Coburn, Lloyd Rees and Brett Whiteley.
Stuart Purves’ personal dedication and enthusiasm to the promotion of the arts in Australia is indicative of his confidence in the important role visual art plays in the national and international psyche. With over forty years active involvement, he continues to be passionate about art and his commitment to the artists he represents.
We expect this to be an informal relaxed evening . Hope to see you there.
Gillian Govan President
