Exhibitions to see

The Melbourne Prize for Urban Sculpture 2014 exhibition is over - followed now by the McClelland Survey - fortunately this one will run a bit longer - until 19 July 2015 - so we'll have the opportunity to see it and compare notes a bit more thoroughly.

Art at Linden Gate is very excited to be holding a rare solo exhibition by Ernst Fries during December and January 2015.

As his eightieth year approaches Ernst celebrates six decades of his artistic career with several new pieces and a look back of selected earlier work.

"This survey exhibition is the first time Australian audiences are able to view Fries’ sculptural œuvre in its entirety. Spanning six decades from the 1960s to the present, the exhibition highlights the recurring themes of urbanisation and the associated environmental issues that impact nature—ideas that resonate at a local as well as universal level.

In the words of art historian Sasha Grishin "[Fries] is a sculptor whose work has a sense of elegance and classical economy of means. He creates simple, uncluttered designs which are intelligible at a glance and yet have plenty of scope for further exploration" extract from catalogue by Caroline Moes

The exhibition runs from 6 December to 26 January.
