Congratulations to Heather King on winning the major Award in her graduate exhibition: "Thankyou to those of you who came to the opening last night. It was such a thrill to win the major award. I am still a little stunned! What a great bunch of people I have worked with over this last 4 years.
Anyway to those who have not been it is worth a visit to Walker Street Gallery. The exhibition finishes next Friday 29th Nov."

Fruit Art

People have sent interesting "sculpture" images - they beg the questions of boundaries and definitions. The fruit art was by an artist in Toulon - so far as we can tell - because an Internet search failed to reveal further details.

Squid Tree

We’re very fond of yarn bombing — knitting colourful coverings for trees, Wall Street bulls, or other bits of the urban landscape — as a way of beautifying the city.http://grist.org/list/this-squid-tree-might-just-be-the-best-yarn-bombing-weve-ever-seen/?utm_source=twitter&utm_medium=tweet&utm_campaign=socialflow
But this squid tree cozy by Jill and Lorna Watt outdoes all the ones we’ve seen so far.

The Chainsaw

One of the piles from which the wood was rescued

I’m carving pear trees that were planted in 1916 and pulled out as the result of contract closures with SPC Ardmona cannery. The timber is a size that demands a chainsaw!

So it was back to school again to get a chainsaw license to enable safe operation of a murderous beast. I found it on the net http://www.allskillsservices.com.au/other-courses/chainsaw-course-melbourne.html It was the sort of course you’d be happy to send your grown-up kids to - to learn respect and skill with a seriously powerful tool.
