President’s letter for August

Hi all fellow sculptors, members and friends..
I am back unopposed as president as are most of the previous committee members and while I am happy to work with this great group of people it was disappointing that there were no other nominations. So the same people are again doing the committee work.

I would like to thank retiring members Suzanne Kaldor and Monica Mauer for their help and support and Robert Kendi who has come on board as Membership secretary and Pat O’Connell who is helping with distribution of the newsletter.
The numbers of members at the Annual General meeting was also disappointing especially as we had such an interesting, inspiring speaker in Damien Vick.

August Meeting - talk and AGM

Prominent Melbourne sculptor Damien Vick was the featured guest at the August 14 meeting and AGM of the ASV.

September Meeting

Rosa Tato has through her community art project gained an understanding of the essence of human experience. Her "Embracing Distance " sculptured panels reflect the cultural diversity and personal mementos and histories of some of the residents in a public housing tower in North Melbourne who have resettled I Melbourne from 16 different countries including Somalia Egypt Sudan, China, Vietnam and Spain.
We are most fortunate that Rosa has agreed to talk to us about this project. Thanks to one of our members Mary McMahon for setting this up for us. We look forward to seeing you on Wednesday 11th September 7:30pm at Ashburton.
