President's Message August 2011

Geoff Williams, President ASV
Members are reminded to bring their friends to two major ASV exhibitions over the next month: the Annual Exhibition 7-18 September, and Tesselaar 15 September to 12 October.
We shall strive to avoid the overlap in exhibition trimmings in future, but are subject to the availability of exhibition space. Meanwhile the Elliot ASV Gallery has commenced a fresh cycle of exhibits.
We have been fortunate in attracting Rudi Jass to join current Committee meetings, subject to his work and new home commitments. We noted the formal resignation of Gillian Govan from the position of coordinating monthly activities, because she felt activities were not being adequately supported. The monthly meetings and visits she has organised have been most enjoyable and rewarding for those that attended, but numbers attending have been disappointing. Gillian would be happy to support anyone who is willing to fi ll the role. Until recently she has found it a most rewarding personal experience meeting fellow members, well known sculptors and visiting people in their studios. She feels the job just needs an injection of new ideas and enthusiasm. In the absence of a revival of regular monthly meetings, our storage facility at Hawthorn Council Chambers may also be at risk. Gillian has been a great strength over recent years, and a signifi cant contributor to every meeting and exhibition that she attends, and we thank her for her support.
A Get Well Message to Don Glue: presently in hospital with a hip replacement.
A special notice to Members will be sent separately over the next two weeks.
Geoff Williams
