The July Meeting

On Wednesday June 12th 11 members braved the cold to meet at Ashburton. It was an enjoyable evening spent in good company. Gillian started the meeting by outlining items discussed at the committee meeting the previous week. A summary of which will follow. She then made a special mention regarding the newsletter to thank Jenny Rickards for her wonderful effort in getting a newsletter to us every month. Gillian noted that she has received many positive comments about the letter and the fact that many members look forward to receiving it and getting all the news. Special thanks are due for the last letter, which Jenny did on her smart phone at Lightening Ridge.

Gillian also welcomed two new members Brian Wigg and Jonathan Mendez- Baute and wished them well in their endeavours.

Being a show and tell evening several members brought in items of interest. Michael Meszaros talked about his latest project for the Austin hospital and showed photos of the work to be put in Kinross called Brumbies. Cetta Pilati showed us 2pieces of mosaic to show the difference between direct and indirect mosaic, Rod Saunders offered a piece of white marble to members and Brian Wigg was glad to make use of it.

Brian showed us his first piece of sculpture a delightful bird carved in soapstone of the most beautiful shades of green. It was a beautifully finished piece of work. Valda then showed a lovely little paper sculpture that had been made for a paper sculpture exhibition.

Gillian then showed a power point presentation of some of the photos of sculptures taken in Canada, Scotland and England. The highlight being a large exhibition of Henry Moore and Rodin sculptures in an exhibition in the grounds of the Henry Moore foundation in Hertfordshire.

The meeting closed with a chatty time over a cup of coffee. The next meeting will be the AGM. We will also be privileged to have Damien Vick tell us about his work and his journey to a public art commission.
