The Association of Sculptors of Victoria is an inclusive, not-for-profit collective of contemporary artists whose purpose is to inspire, stimulate and advance the appreciation, creation, and exploration of three-dimensional art in society.

President's Letter November 2024

The Association held its Annual General Meeting on 31st October 2024. We had a great chat from Carolyn Rogers about her work of sculptural textiles on reclaimed wood. We did run the meeting online as well as at the Camberwell Community Centre. The reports included the usual financial report and reports on all our coordinators' work. The PDF treasurer's report can be sent to members needing that information and it was presented at the meeting.

A slideshow of our activities in 2024 accompanied the president's report.

After the reports we held the elections for the 2025 office bearers. There has been remarkably little change in the line up.
  • President - Jenny Rickards
  • Vice President - Yvonne Monik
  • Treasurer - John Ride
  • Secretary and Public Officer - John Bishop
  • Ordinary (But, not ordinary at all!) Committee Members - Heather Wilson and Carmel Ritchie

Of course the work of the ASV is done by an extended group of coordinators and their helpers - but the committee is the backbone of the organisation and sets the quorum at our committee meetings.

We have a great deal of experience here which should be an encouragement to sculptors wishing to get involved in our direction and management.

Note that I am now serving the final fourth consecutive year as president - please consider who should carry on in 2026. Think about it for all positions and coordinator roles - now, while there is no catastrophe and people are available to assist and nurture your ideas. In my own case, for 2026, I prefer to step back to a vice president role where I can assist with back room administration such as the website.

The interim report on the website was a video from Alberto and reflects well on the sub-committee which developed the brief.
So far the program for 2025 includes three exhibitions:

  • outdoors at Melbourne International Flower & Garden Show,
  • indoors at the Victorian Artists Society for our Annual & Awards Exhibition
  • and a (relatively) small regional exhibition at Castlemaine Market exhibition space.
Feel free to contact the coordinators with your offers of help both great and small

And for a celebration of the friendship and art we share - I’m looking forward to catching up with as many of you as possible at Carmel’s place on 8th December.

Happy sculpting

Jenny Rickards, President
