Honorary Life Member

Gillian Govan (https://sculptorsvictoria.asn.au/sculptors/profile/gillian-govan) joined us when the ASV was meeting at Kingston Art Centre and had only been in a short while when Rod Sanders persuaded her to talk about her work in 2002. He had seen an article about her concrete sculptures in Country Style magazine. We’ve seen her work in exhibitions since 2003.. hard working as well as inspired.

In 2014 her work "Grace" won the Margaret Gunnersen William Hoggan Thomas Award - this during the time she has served as ASV president.

Gillian has served on committee as president, activities officer, annual exhibition coordinator and general committee member for over 12 years and is currently acting president - because we can’t find anyone to replace her. She has lifted the role of president to serious heights negotiating exhibition venues, setting paths for our activities, networking with people of influence in the art world and coordinating our search for a home, There is no part of the ASV’s activities that she hasn’t helped to guide. And she hasn’t quit yet.

I believe that Gillian well and truly deserves to be elevated to the ranks of honorary life members and hope that lots of members will be present at the June general meeting to speak to the motion and vote in support. Proxies can also be sent to our secretary, John Bishop secretary@sculptorsvictoria.asn.au
