Tesselaar Sculpture Prize 2015

The outstanding visual delight of looking at the many rows of very colourful tulips rippling across the fields is a challenging context in which to place sculpture.

The growing interest in and ongoing success of the Tesselaar Sculpture Prize is due to the imagination, flights of invention, highly-skilled and dedication of the sculptors presenting their works for exhibition. And into its eighth year it continues to be an honour to curate this exhibition and competition, viewed by over 100,000 people each year.

The selected 21 finalists showcasing their broad artistic styles and creative talent in this year’s exhibition came from across Victoria, and included some well-known and highly-regarded Australian sculptors and ASV members, along with a number of talented emerging sculptors.

Mike Nicholls was awarded the $10,000 Acquisitive Award for 2015 for his work ‘Regeneration’, which is a wonderfully organic and evocative carved work, and will now be added to the growing collection of fine sculpture at the Tesselaar property.

Among a number of highly-fancied works Brandon Kroon won the People’s Choice Award with his skilfully chainsaw-carved ‘The Chief’.
