The November Meeting

We had a great gathering in November - Gillian’s wonderful hospitality combined with some amazing sculpture to discuss. We were happy to meet new member Ilona Herreiner who travelled “across town” to be there.
Marija Patterson "Waiting"

The wonders of technology liberated by John Bishop enabled Marija Patterson to show pictures on Gillian’s big screen. The images were from Marija’s exhibition “Figures and Facades” part of the Melbourne East Arts Festival. Marija explored her mother’s journey as a wartime immigrant and an exceptional person.

Gillian photographed this one in Brisbane
but failed to record the artist's name
And as promised in the previous newsletter Gillian showed us images of contemporary sculpture she saw in Queensland - and gave us some commentary/context.

The plaster for Michael Meszaros's medallion
Michael Meszaros showed us his latest medallion - still in plaster form - entitled Elected Representative at the moment - but being modified to celebrate universal suffrage.

Jenny Whiteside brought us marble samples from Pietrasanta - so white, slightly crystalline in its sparkle.. And she described working with it.

Carl Lutz and the Shearing Sheep

Carl Lutz showed us the humorous side of wood working with a “Sheep Shearing Man” automaton. The piece is from Carl’s collection but I don’t have a record of the artist’s name.

Gordon Robertson work in stainless steel

And with his usual modesty Gordon Robertson explained the construction of his stainless steel masterpiece
