SCRAP
We are a community group, in a Victorian regional town (population < 400), and each year we have an art show to raise funds for local community groups within our postcode. For five years we hosted the Bald Archys, the alternate Archibald art show, exhibiting caricatures of famous Australians. Last year the Bald Archy organisers changed their exhibition strategy, and Swanpool is no longer part of the tour. As a resilient community, we launched our own art show - Swanpool Creative Recycled Art Prize (SCRAP) which displays all forms of art, made from 75% or more recycled materials. This year we have added another category for outdoor art as well, to further broaden our visitor experience - and details can be found on our website: http://www.swanpoolanddistrict.com.au/scrap-2019.html
Entries close at 5pm on 12thJuly2019

Heiti Kulmar is a sculptor who will be visiting Australia in September. He has studied sculpture and conservation of natural stone objects and has worked as a sculpture collection manager for 3 years in the second largest museum in Estonia. During his visit he would like to meet with some local artists. He has some experience in stone carving, mould making and modelling and would be happy to work as an assistant for a short period.
If any one is interested in meeting him please email : heiti.kulmar@gmail.com

For wood carvers:
Following the recent award of the Toorak Road level crossing project, the Level Crossing Removal Project (LXRP) will soon be starting preparatory works to set up our construction site.
To remove the level crossing and build the new rail bridge over Toorak Road, we need to remove some existing vegetation. Our aim is to re-use or recycle this vegetation wherever possible.
As a local community group, we would like to offer you the opportunity to secure some of the removed vegetation for use in furniture, artwork, habitat, parks, garden mulch or other purposes.
Key information about vegetation:
Trees: available will be a minimum of 450mm in diameter and either 2000mm or 4000mm long. The trees available are primarily hardwood, but some pine is also available.
If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact the LXRP Contact Centre on 1800 105 105 or contact@levelcrossings.vic.gov.au.

Jesmonite materials
Jesmonite products are composite materials which are a combination of reactive mineral base and a pure water based acrylic resin. It is already being used by some high profile contemporary artists including Phil Cuttance and Chinese artist Xu Zhen who’s Eternity-Buddha in Nirvana was recently displayed at the NGV International in Melbourne.
Jesmonite is the ultimate chameleon material – it can be used to replicate the appearance and texture of any surface finish in any number of colours.
The combination of natural raw materials with a special blend of water based pure acrylic polymers create a unique family of materials that have a number of product benefits that make Jesmonite superior to other sculpting, casting or moulding materials.
The key benefits of Jesmonite are;
  • Strong, flexible and more durable, making it high impact resistant
  • Lightweight
  • Fast curing time
  • Fire-resistant with a class zero fire rating, reduced smoke density and toxicity characteristics
  • Superior cast and glass reinforced mouldings
  • Easy to use, adaptable material for all moulding applications
  • Solvent free with no VOC’s
  • Replicates the very finest detail
  • Water-based not solvent-based, making it kinder to the environment
  • Can be pigmented to any colour or RAL reference. It can also mimic any texture and reproduce the effect of materials such as stone, metal, wood, leather and fabric

My husband is a retired motor mechanic (we live in Croydon, Vic). We have some old car parts like brake drums, a flywheel or two, various items. We would rather have someone take them and perhaps put them to good use instead of just taking them to the scrap metal yard. Also have quite a lot of nuts and bolts. Not a truckload of anything, but if someone lives in the Croydon area, perhaps they would like to check what’s here. Phyllis Coffey – pjcoffey@hotkey.net.au
