L AU R E N C E EDWARDS PART OF THE LANDSCAPE EVOLUTION & EXPLORATION

13TH MAY - 6TH JUNE

MESSUMS WILTSHIRE | 409 MALVERN RD | SOUTH YARRA | VIC 3141 I AUSTRALIA
We can attend the private viewing on Saturday 12th May from 3 - 5pm and the Principal of Messums Wiltshire, Mr Johnny Wiltshire will be there to answer any questions. He asked me to extend invitations to the ASV and friends etc. The exhibition will be running for an extended time, if some are not able to attend at the private viewing. Laurence’s figurative work is very interesting and in demand, and obviously has taken much organisation to get his works out here safely.

NEW DIRECTOR @ McCLELLAND SCULPTURE PARK

At the Opening of the exhibition FRAMING NATURE, the Board of Trustees announced the new Director at McClelland Sculpture Park & Gallery is distinguished Curator Lisa Byrne.

Lisa Byrne has an impressive and varied career in the arts sector as a director/ curator in Victoria, New South Wales and the ACT across local, state and national arts organisations. She has held significant curatorial roles in both research and practice at Monash and RMIT Universities and leadership roles in several contemporary arts organisations in Australia, such as the Australian Centre for Photography and Canberra Contemporary Art Space. Lisa was closely involved in the development of the arts and culture programme for Realm, a library learning and cultural centre in the newly redeveloped Ringwood Town Square. As Curator for the Maroondah City Council she was responsible for its art collection where she successfully negotiated several major cultural gift donations by leading Australian artists.

In welcoming Lisa Byrne the Board of Trustees at McClelland Sculpture Park & Gallery also paid tribute to the vital transition work of Strategic Manager, Maudie Palmer AO.

Maudie was saluted and thanked for her careful review of McClelland’s operations and outreach this year, and her energy in leading the organization. Maudie’s legacy will be the new Education Pavilion due to open in 2018.

Sculpture Network (Europe)

Last year I met with the Sculpture Network (www.sculpture-network.org  - a leading platform for three -dimensional art) whilst they were visiting here in Sydney and Melbourne. The ASV is taking up an offer of a lifetime membership of their Organisation which normally costs €250 per year. There are other levels of memberships offered - please see the website.

Amongst other things, they do offer Scholarships, lists of excellent residencies and much more. Below please find a brief outline of their aims.

As well, any of our artist members would then be able to avail themselves of a single membership in the organisation at a reduced rate.

I encourage you to consider this offer as a way of expanding your reach and linking with a world wide organisation, for cross fertilisation of ideas, expanding networks and much more. I am a member, and have enjoyed immensely the benefits and stimulation gained. I encourage you to have a close look at their detailed website for further information (www.sculpture-network.org)
