McClelland Sculpture Park+Gallery and Southern Way have announced the fourth call for entries for the next Southern Way McClelland Commission valued at $250,000. This commission provides a unique opportunity for national and international artists to develop an ambitious major public sculpture that will enhance the travel experience along Peninsula Link. This high profile sculpture will be of benefit and enjoyment to the local community and freeway users, before being relocated and becoming part of McClelland’s permanent collection.

The call for submissions for the Southern Way McClelland Commission is open 14 August 2015 and close on 2 November 2015. The fabrication and delivery of this work must be completed in May 2017.

This commission forms part of an ongoing program of new sculptures that will each be on display for 4 years on the Peninsula Link freeway. Every two years until 2037, one new sculpture will be commissioned to alternate between sites at Skye Road and Cranbourne Road, along the Peninsula Link freeway. By 2037 this program will have resulted in a total of 14 commissions valuing in excess of $4 million.
