Sculpture by the Sea, Bondi 2013 call for artist submissions



Introducing the 17th annual Sculpture by the Sea, Bondi in Sydney, Australia which is being held from 24 October - 10 November 2013. Last year an estimated 500,000 people attended the exhibition over 18 days and 20% of the outdoor works sold.

As we begin the call for artist submissions for our 2013 Bondi exhibition, we are writing with the hope that will be able to inform your contacts, members and/or students about the exhibition.

The curatorial panel for Sculpture by the Sea, Bondi 2013 is:
Deborah Edwards, Curator Australian Art, Art Gallery of NSW;
Geoffrey Edwards, Director, Geelong Gallery and Former Senior Curator Sculpture & Glass, National Gallery of Victoria;
Dr. Michael Hill, Head of Art History & Theory, National Art School; and
Julie Lomax, Director Visual Arts, Australia Council for the Arts.

Artist support and subsidies for Sculpture by the Sea, Bondi 2013 will include:
A minimum artist subsidy of $2,000 for each artist who does not otherwise net over $2,000 in sales, subsidies or prizes from the exhibition;
We anticipate announcing a major prize;
• Helen Lempriere Scholarships of $30,000 each for Australian artists;
• Clitheroe Foundation Mentorships of $10,000 each for young emerging Australian artists and their mentors;
• Up to $20,000 of subsidies for artists of ephemeral and site specific sculptures that by their nature are unlikely to be sold including the Art Gallery Society of NSW Site Specific Subsidy for an emerging sculptor;
•We anticipate offering an Environmental Sculpture subsidy of $5,000 for works that utilise wind, water, solar power or other aspects of the environment;
•Allens People’s Choice Prize of $5,000;
•The Andrea Stretton Memorial Invitation of $5,000 to exhibit in Sculpture by the Sea, Cottesloe 2014 in Perth, Western Australia;
•For Tasmanian artists: The Dick Bett Memorial Invitation of $5,000 towards freight, materials, accommodation and airfare;
•Sculpture Inside Curators Prize of $2,500 for a work in our concurrently held indoor exhibition;
•Return economy class airfares to Sydney for up to 7 overseas artists;
•Return economy class airfares to Sydney for up to 7 interstate artists; and
•Material Sponsorship of plasma or oxycut steel and scrap steel for selected artists to be used in the sculptures exhibited.
In submitting entries, to Sculpture by the Sea, Bondi 2013 please note:
Important changes to previous Application Forms are marked with an asterisk (*);

 It can be difficult for the curatorial panel to assess your submission if you do not express your ideas clearly and succinctly with all the requested information;
Provide supporting material including your CV and images of similar previous works;
It is not necessary for works in Sculpture by the Sea, Bondi to be for sale and we encourage submissions for site specific and ephemeral works;
The Sculpture by the Sea exhibitions have a strong sales record, with our Bondi exhibition seeing sales of over A$1 million for each of the past six years. Please note that while we occasionally sell works valued over A$100K, the majority of our sales are for under A$60K.

The Brooch Show 2013

 
The Brooch Show... is an initiative of the Contemporary Art Society of Victoria Inc. (CAS).
This is the sixth time we have held The Brooch Show... It is an exhibition of small wearable artworks, hence the title, The Brooch Show... This popular exhibition showcases small wearable artworks by both established and emerging contemporary artists and offers participating artists the opportunity to gain exposure for their art at low entry cost. By having a theme of small wearable artworks, artist’s have an opportunity to submit works via Australia Post. In the last exhibition, we had 228 "brooches" on public display, representing 67 individual artists. (and good sales!) This year, The Brooch Show... will again ‘tour’ to two different venues in Melbourne, Victoria (Australia):
Fitzroy: 2 May to the 29 June 2013
South Yarra: 2 July - 30 August 2013
Entry is $5 (AU) per work.
Entry deadline: Return completed entry forms, correct payment and your works, by 19th of April 2013.
All brooches (artworks) to be sent by Australia Post. Entry fees can be paid by PayPal (on our website) / cheque / money order / credit card / EFT.

11th Annual Swell Sculpture Festival

 
CALL FOR ENTRIES 2013 OPEN :: ANNOUNCING $15,000 NON-acquisitive award
Artists are invited to submit entries for the 11th annual Swell Sculpture Festival taking place on the Gold Coast’s Currumbin Beach in Queensland from 13 - 22 September, 2013.
Exhibiting up to 55 sculptures, Swell Sculpture Festival supports full freedom of expression for all forms of sculpture and encourage submissions with entry open to artists nationally and internationally working in any medium.
Swell Sculpture Festival provides artists with the opportunity to exhibit in a highly regarded exhibition set within a visually stimulating, expansive coastal landscape. The free to the public exhibition attracts an audience of around 190,000 over 10 days.
We are pleased to announce in 2013 that the top award will be the $15,000 Swell Sculpture Award (non-acquisitive) sponsored by the Gold Coast City Council. The existing People’s Choice Award, Kids’ Choice Award, Max Fabre Foundation Environmental Awareness Award, Jennie Neumann OAM Emerging Artist Award and Media Award will also continue taking the award pool to $30,000.

Jindivick Sculpture Show 2013:

Dates: May 11th to 26th 2013 
 
Where: Jindivick, West Gippsland, Victoria. (about 15 kilometres north of Warragul). 
 
The 2013 Jindivick Sculpture Show will feature not one, but two acquisition awards, with a total prize pool of $7500. This makes it probably the largest sculpture award in Gippsland and represents a significant development in this annual show. Entries will be displayed throughout the village of Jindivick in cafĂ©’s, restaurants, the gallery and the garden centre, and will provide a great incentive to visit and spend some time in the delightful township. 
 
The acquisition awards are: 
  • Warragul Rotary Award, with a value of $5000, and the winning entry being permanently installed in Rotary Park, Warragul. 
  • The Mawarra Jindivick Sculpture Award, with a value of $1500, and the winning entry being permanently installed in the Jindivick Community Garden, Jindivick. 
  • Other prizes are for the best use of Natural/Traditional Materials ($500), and for the best use of New/Unusual Materials ($500). 
 
Entries are open to Sculptors from all over, and the theme in common with the ‘Gippsland, be inspired’ Festival is ‘Space’.
