President’s Message

The last two months have seen the successful organisation of the Tesselaar Exhibition by Mark Cowie, completion and registration of the revised ASV Constitution with Consumer Affairs (copies available from the Secretary), claim by Patrick on behalf of the ASV for losses incurred by the ASV in the Annual Exhibition in the fire at Manningham council chambers, and start of work on a new ASV web site by Alberto Martinez. Gillian has also now planned monthly activities to April 2010.
After much argument the Committee has agreed to change the basis of charging ASV commission in exhibitions organised by the ASV to the basis advocated by NAVA, in order to minimise confusion amongst sculptors. In future the ASV will charge commission on the catalogue selling price before adding any applicable GST. Discussion was held with the NAVA consultant, who conceded that confusion was rife on the subject, alternative formulae were common, and galleries frequently base their commission on catalogue prices including GST. …Geoff Williams
